Letterkenny in Bloom

The Community in Bloom judges will be visiting Letterkenny this week as the town competes in this internationally acclaimed competition.

Letterkenny is participating in the 2016 National Edition of Communities in Bloom in the International Challenge (Large) category, along with Fairhope Alabama USA; Lambton Shores ON Canada; Morro Bay California USA; Omagh Town, Fermanagh & Omagh District Council Northern Ireland & Rosemère QC Canada.

The Communities in Bloom judges, Odette Sabourin-Dumais from Québec & Piet Boersma from The Netherlands will be in Letterkenny this week on the 27th, 28th and 29th of July and the community is urging all businesses and residents to tidy up their property before the judges arrive.

Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, beautification and to improving quality of life through community participation and a national challenge.

The National and International results will be announced in Regina in the Saskatchewan Province in Canada from October 27th to 29th, 2016 during the Symposium and Awards.

The event will be held in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association’s Annual Conference with the theme of Healthy Communities – Harvesting the Benefits.

To support the educational aspect of its activities, the organization established the Communities in Bloom Foundation, a registered charity dedicated to funding, developing, and disseminating education and awareness on the value, improvement, importance and sustainable development of green spaces and natural environment in Canada.

Within the context of climate change and environmental concerns, all those involved in the Communities in Bloom program can be proud of their efforts which provide real and meaningful environmental solutions and benefit all of society.
